The Sketchbook Project: Summer 2018 Tour

The moment I heard about the Sketchbook Project, I had to get involved. Since 2006, The Brooklyn Art Library has done a phenomenal job bringing together over 200,000 artists from around the world and is almost entirely crowded sourced.

How does it work?

Buy a sketchbook. This is what funds the ability to continue this project.

You have the opportunity to digitize upon purchase. It’s amazing that they provide this service. If you do pay the digitize fee, afterward you receive a unique URL and can always go visit your sketchbook again via the vast online library. You also get to see have many people have viewed it if you participate in the online library.

They have specific themes that are suggested. However, they will not toss your book in the East River if go your own direction. Sketch, collage, write, whatever floats your boat.

Submit by the due date.

Now the really cool part happens. Your sketchbook, along with thousands of other submissions go on tour with the Brooklyn Library. This year they have a 3-city tour planned in Atlanta, Chicago, and Ontario, with other dates to be announced.

Post-Tour

After your book goes on tour, it returns to the Brooklyn Art Library, home of the permanent exhibition space in the heart of Williamsburg, NY. 2018 was so inspired and fun, I decided to participate again in 2019.

Find my book, Los Amantes within the collection. I choose the theme “Connections”. It is a love story dedicated to my wife.
